We are proud to announce Arianna Huffington as midlifebachelor.com’s Woman of the Month pick for March 2011!
Few previous Women of the Month picks have been pure business women. Arianna Huffington was a clear and easy choice for us to make at this time because of her incredible February 2011 achievement of selling her Huffington Post website to AOL for $315M. She started huffingtonpost.com in 2005, and grew it into a site with 25 million monthly visitors – which is huge. [Trust me – I can understand and comprehend the magnitude of her achievement … because I only get roughly 32,000 monthly visitors currently at midlifebachelor.com. See our advertising page for our current traffic figures – including quantcast- and google analytics-validated numbers.]
I always like to include a video or two of our Woman of the Month in action. The best video I was able to find of Arianna Huffington talking about the recent buyout by AOL is unfortunately not embeddable, but I will give you a link to it. What I like about the video is she and Tim Armstrong (AOL CEO) discuss what the Huffington Post brings to the table for AOL … which is essentially the acceleration of the social aspect of news. The idea is that really good content is available across multiple screens … not just the television, but across the internet in many forms and gadgets. People read it, like it – and virally spread it everywhere via FaceBook, Twitter, etc. So you can essentially consume news (and other content) ANYWHERE. That is what The Huffington Post does extremely well – and Arianna’s mission is to spread that across all of the various types of content that AOL produces. We at midlifebachelor.com applaud their strategy, and wish Arianna success in achieving it. Here are several videos of Arianna – the first is a link to a non-embeddable youtube video of her and Tim Armstrong. The second is a bit more fluffy, but gives you a glimpse into Arianna’s warm and engaging personality.
Now I am definitely not endorsing the left-leaning politics of the Huffington Post – as midlifebachelor.com is not a political website. For the record, I am more of centrist republican – if you must know. Prior conservative Women of the Month here include Sarah Palin and Christine O’Donnell. So my message is – we can select our Woman of the Month based on a number of things … which could include hotness, business acumen, notoriety, achievements of some sort, and/or some combination of the aforementioned. All of these women are Jackpots, in midlifebachelor.com terminology (see Types of Women – Jackpot).
Arianna Huffington has lived an incredible life, and I won’t attempt to write her biography here. She founded the Huffington Post in May 2005 after John Kerry’s loss to George W. Bush as a liberal response to the conservative website known as The Drudge Report. By 2008, the Huffington Post had moved beyond politics, and added a number of non-political channels which appealed to more mainstream advertisers. I’ve read that she has over 9000 writers and bloggers contributing to her website – which is amazing.
Typically at this point, we attempt to analyze our Woman of the Month pick in terms of the Midlifebachelor.com 14 Types of Women. Which type or types do you suppose Arianna Huffington might be? Well, she is certainly a Jackpot (see Types of Women – Jackpot) since she is obviously a high income earner and incredible business leader. If you know Arianna Huffington personally and/or would to share something about her – please add a COMMENT to the comment section at the bottom of this page!
