Woman of the Month – January 2013 Sibila Vargas

Sibila Vargas, co-anchor for CBS 2 in Los Angeles for the 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. broadcasts, has been selected as the midlifebachelor.com Woman of the Month for January 2013!

Sibila Vargas arrived at CBS 2 in late 2010, and brings her energy, intelligence, plus her undeniable Latina hotness to the small screens across Southern California.  When she smiles, the television screens all over LA light up.  We are very happy to have her here – definitely!

So the first thing we were really wondering about Sibila is – what kind of name is “Sibila”? Actually, the name “Sibila” is Spanish or Catalan (currently part of Spain), and is somewhat equivalent to the English name “Sybil”. I’ve lived in Southern California most of my adult life … where Spanish is spoken as much as English … and I’d never heard of the name “Sibila” before Sibila Vargas burst onto our screens.  So it does appear to be an unusual name.

Here’s what we know about Sibila Vargas.  She was born September 1, 1968 – so she is 44 years old currently.  She is married (rats!) to Alex Pappas, and has two children.  Her father-in-law was Ike Pappas … a long-time CBS newsman who might be best remembered for the live report he gave in 1963 when Jack Ruby stepped out and shot Lee Harvey Oswald right in front of him – during the actual interview.  So Sabila is married to Ike’s son, Alex.  I guess she got her television journalist blood from her father-in-law?

Prior to coming to CBS 2, Sibila Vargas was an entertainment reporter at KTLA-TV in LA, and at CNN.  She’s also worked as a guest co-host for ABC’s The View, along with prior positions as host of TV Guide Channel’s Hollywood Insider, Fox Movie Channel News and FXM Dailies, Paramount Domestic TV’s Real TV and guest host of Fox Sports and Fit TV’s Forever Young.  She began her broadcasting career at WPIX-TV in New York as a writer and producer.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Long Island University in New York.
